whew....my semester has finally come to an end! i graduate in december and i am beyond excited.
however, for those incoming freshmen, your freshman year has got to be the best year of you're life, so make sure that is at CSU!

hopefully you have been accepted and such, and ill see you good people in the fall!!!

the last week of classes is this week...and boy am i beyond ecstatic. finals next week, no more papers...ugh summer i need you now!

however, i did not come here to boast about the end of the semester, i came to remind you guys...
PRIORITY APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 1ST!!!

when is may 1st, you ask...IT'S FRIDAY!!!!
hopefully you guys arent breaking out in a panic attack right now, and you have already applied and been accepted and posted the acceptance letter on your locker and had family dinner at your fav restaurant to celebrate.

well...this semester is almost coming to a close. only 3 more weeks left of school!
i know its prom time, so i hope you guys have fun! dont forget to get those housing applications in, because it is required for incoming freshman that live more than 30 miles outside of columbus to live on campus! campus housing is apartment-style, so they are fabulous.
for those of you who haven't come on a campus tour or to a visitation day, i reccomend that you come and check us out! we will be more than happy to show you around!

man...this semester is going by extremely fast! it seems like it just started, but last week was spring break. midterms were the week before sb, which isn't so bad because for most classes you don't have to worry about doing work during the break.

i hope you guys have applied and been accepted for the fall. if not get on the ball! housing is required for incoming freshman, and in order for you to get the accomadations you desire, i reccommend that you apply as soon as possible. also, for those of you who have yet to visit our campus, VISITATION DAY is next saturday. sign up online to join us in all the fun. if youve already come to see us, and you want to come back...we welcome you too. we know you love us!

visitation day last saturday was great! i'm sure we showed the prospective students a good time, and gave them more information than they could ask for. if you were unable to join us, we have another one coming up on march 28th.

as far as school goes, everything has been great. i love most of my classes this semester, although i have some morning classes which i havent had for awhile now. one great thing about college is how you can make your own schedule. however, when you get to your upper level classes, you dont have as many choices, so you def have to take what you can get.

hopefully, for my readers out there, your senior year is a blast! but remember if youve been accepted, admissions is still looking at your grades so dont slack off too much!

New Semester

this week was the beginning of the new semester. i enjoyed my break, but it was a tad bit too long, and i was kind of excited to come back this semester (strange i know). this semester, i only have 12 hours, which is 4 classes, and when you enroll you will find out that you must have at least 12 hours to be considered a full-time student. if you recieve any financial aid (including hope), its essential that you are full-time. this semester i am in all english classes, and most of them correlate with each other, which i find to be very interesting. according to all of my syllabi (plural for syllabus...i love it) ive got to get prepared to have a semester full of papers. crap. i hate writing papers. im not an english major for my awesome writing, but more so for my love of literature. but, its college, im a senior, and i something i have to get over. which if you come here, you will learn to get over it too, because in the end it makes you stronger thanks to all the pressure. lol..but heres a reminder....

Finals Week...

this week begins finals week, where in the majority of classes you take a cumulative test to review what you have learned over the semester. out of my four classes, i only have to take 2 finals this week. in my online class, the class ended early, so i took my final before thanksgiving, and in my film class, we thankfully didn't have to take a final, we just had to turn in a 5-page paper. i prefer turning in a paper or something rather than taking a final in most cases, although sometimes a paper can weigh more than a final. i have a final for my feminism class, and we are permitted to have a "cheat sheet" because we have to write a in-class 3 page essay of a question of her (my professor) choosing. im not too ecstatic about this, but because i can fail the final (which i dont encourage) and still get a high b in the class, its not that bad. it is cumulative (which means it covers the entire semester), which makes it suck. my other final is wednesday afternoon, and that too is an in-class essay. although that final is not as much pressure because its only based on the last two novels we have read in the class. soooo, i hope you guys wish me luck, because i need to come out of this semester strong! ill let you know how it goes.

here at csu, on-campus housing is somewhat lenient. you dont have to be in your room at a certain time. and you can definately get kicked out if you dont do your work. it's alot different from high school, nobody tells you to go to class, and you are on your own. but in most classes, you only get like 4 days you can miss, then they drop you from the class. this goes on your transcript, and it looks bad on you. however, if youre the type of person that can get your work done, and still party all night, then you should be fine. (but most students arent like that...)

Im considering going to CSU and I would like to know a few things before I decide. Is CSU very diverse? Is there something always going on? Is it boring? Is the cafeteria food good? Whats it like living in housing? Is there parties always going on?

great questions. the CSU population is diverse, as of this semester, the school is 58% white, 31.5% black, 3.5% hispanic, and 3.7% multi-racial out of our 8000 or so population. the school isn't boring, that is unless you make it that way of course. there is something always going on on campus, and the majority of the things are free and sponsored by the Student Activities Council, which is paid for by student fees. i've lived in on-campus housing since i've been here, and to be honest if i didnt like it, i wouldn't be staying there. i have my own bedroom and bathroom, and since they are apartment style, they are much nicer than all of the on campus housing i've seen at schools my friends go to. we have a full kitchen, and a living room like a regular apartment. you are not permitted to have parties in on-campus housing, unless you have them in the clubhouse. but, you can always find a party to go to somewhere in the city!

Thanksgiving Break

Well, Wednesday begins Thanksgiving Break. although i really need a break, knowing that finals are right around the corner doesnt make me happy. the semester is coming to a close, which means the workload is getting heavier, and alot of deadlines are going to have to be met. i have a five page paper for my film class which is due on the 8th. i have yet to finish up my research. i dont encourage procrastinating, but this just snuck up on me! ill let you all know how it goes....

well, this week begins registration for the spring semester. in order to register, you must first speak with an advisor, who is assigned to you, and they recommend the classes you should take the next semester. they also help you come up with a plan, and an outlook on when youre gonna graduate and good stuff like that. i didn't go to my advisor this semester, but instead i went to group advising which is offered by some departments. they gave us free food, which played a large factor in me going! lol. for the spring, i only registered for 12 hours, which is 4 classes, because i plan on taking 2 in the summer. registration can be quite the hassle, because classes can fill up quite fast, which means that you have to change everything around if you dont get one class. luckily, im a student ambassador, and one of the perks is you get to register early!!! being involved on campus definately has its pay-offs! let me know if you guys have any questions!

Fall Break

so....its the past week has been pretty hard. unfortunately, its mid-term time. on monday, i had a midterm in my introduction to film class as well as my feminist political thought class. the midterm for my pol. thought class was pretty hard. it covered all the articles weve read in the class so far, which is like a million (actually 25, but still), and we had to answer 5 short answer questions and write an essay in 75 minutes. it was horrid, absolutely horrid. i spent the majority of the weekend studying, and she did allow us to make a "cheat sheet" with any information neccesary to answer the questions on a one-sided piece a paper. Very few professors do this, so don't expect this "kindness" with every course. despite all of this, i think i did pretty good b/c i studied forever in addition to my cheat sheet, but we shall see.... the film midterm was a breeze. the only problem with my film class is that you must take the time outside the class to watch the films again. some of them are not good enough to watch them again, but our film professor keeps telling us that you see different stuff in the movie everytime you watch it. and hes right: ie. i watched baby mama (hilarious) for the second time today, and it was even funnier than the 1st and i laughed at stuff i dont remember from before.

anywho.....ITS FALL BREAK! the best part about college is the random breaks it comes along with, and fall break its def one of them. we get today and tommorow off, but because my class was cancelled on wednesday, ive been on break since tuesday. and its absolutely wonderful. i needed this break. although im not breaking completely, because ive got some online spanish work due :( another great thing about csu, none of my friends at other schools get a fall break. ha. ha. go cougars!

hey you guys....im jillian, a senior english literature major here at csu! in this blog, ill talk about stuff that goes on on campus, and essentially whats going on with me. i might also discuss my post-graudation plans, and all that im doing to prepare for that. this semester im enrolled in spanish 2002, studies of the british novel, introduction to film, and feminist political thought. feminist political thought isnt required for me to graduate, but i thought it would be an interesting class to take, and i was right! it my favorite class this semester, we engage in debates as well as discussions with males in our class who have always believed, "a woman's place is in the kitchen." everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but this class was made to change that. we talk about women in society, and the views of women all around us. you would be surprised about some of the stuff we learn. my spanish class is an online class, and most people are surprised to hear that you can take a spanish class online. however, i prefer it. face-to-face foreign language classes confuse me, i would much rather learn it on my own at my own pace. we are given assignments to complete by a certain date, and we only have a midterm (which is online as well) and a final (which is proctored :-( ). this weekend, im staying in, in order to complete my online spanish assignments that are due at 3am monday, and a midterm that has to also be completed by tht time. soooo...i need to get to that. but, if you ever have any questions or comments just let me know!
